Our ultimate goal is to understand how brain is wired, holding together, and working (more or less) well throughout one’s lifetime. The approach we undertake is to dismantle the nervous system, learn what each part (cells, synapses, and circuits) does, and probe the consequences after causing malfunction of brain cells. Our experimental animal is fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster), which are powerful genetic model organisms that share similar genes and brain structure and function with humans.
